President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday emphasized
that the Government was committed to looking after its people who
had the discomfiture of being displaced in their own home country
due to atrocities by terrorists.

Resettlement of IDPs:
Sri Lanka sets world record
Tiny Sri Lanka had set a world record by
resettling a larger number of IDPs within few months while the big
countries could not do so in many years. Hurricane Katrina victims
are still living in temporary shelters. But most of these countries
did not have a problem of land mines or security problems about
their IDPs.

Uthuru Vasanthaya:
Rs 200m allocated for Northern schools
Education Minister Susil Premajayanth told
Parliament yesterday that Rs. 200 million was allocated to
reconstruct 397 schools in the Northern Province under the Uthuru
Vasanthaya. The Minister was responding to a question by JVP
Parliamentarian Ranaweera Pathirana.
