To pick team for SL vs Bombay Schools contest
Boxing meet will serve as a trial

The Boys and Girls Boxing Championships is expected to serve as a
trial to pick boxers for the Bombay School Vs Sri Lanka School dual meet
to be held the next year. The ABA School Boys & Girls Boxing
Championships is being held for the Dian Gomes Challenge Trophy and
inaugural Lt Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya Challenge Trophy and is being
conducted by Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka from November 6 to
9 at the Veyangoda Central College Boxing Hall.
This meet will be open to boxers between the 13 - 14 age group and 17
-18 age group.
The age will be determined by the year of birth. The school boys &
girls bouts will be 3 rounds of 1.5 minutes duration each and the Youth
Boys & Girls bouts will be 4 rounds of 2 minutes each with 1 minute rest
between each round.
Gloves and head guards for participants will be provided by the ABA
according to the International standard. Own gloves will not be allowed
to be used. As per the International regulations medical team and
qualified doctors will be available during the tournament.
The Medical Examination and weighing in will be held from 7.00 to
10.00 am on November 6 and 7.00 to 9.00 am on the subsequent dates.
Producing of record Books at the weigh-in will be compulsory. It is
mandatory to complete the annual medical examination in the record book.
In the boxing history this would be the first time ABA conducts two
separate meets amalgamating as one in a one day tournament. More than 35
schools have entered their teams for the tournaments including schools
from rural areas.
The winners, runner ups and 3rd places will receive cups and
certificates. The best boxer and best loser of the meet will receive
special award while champion teams will receive Dian Gomes Challenge
Trophy and Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya Challenge Trophy.
The Chief Guest for the finals will be the Secretary of School Boxing
Association S.K. Karunarathna.
