Uthuru Vasanthaya:
Rs 200m allocated for Northern schools

Education Minister Susil Premajayanth told Parliament yesterday that
Rs. 200 million was allocated to reconstruct 397 schools in the Northern
Province under the Uthuru Vasanthaya. The Minister was responding to a
question by JVP Parliamentarian Ranaweera Pathirana.
Minister Premajayanth said the Educational Publications Department
will provide all school textbooks 2010 to students in welfare centres
for by December.
Already 80 percent of textbooks had been supplied through the zonal
directors at the cost of Rs. 130 million, the Minister said.
In addition, extra books have been provided for immediate use to the
Kadiragamar welfare centre. The books have been stored there, the
Minister said.
The Minister said temporary schools had been set up in the welfare
centres with 2,979, 65,525, 2,013 and 725 students in Jaffna, Vavuniya,
Pulmudai and Mannar camps.
Minister Premajayanth said these students educational activities
would be regularized soon after the displaced are resettled. He said the
Government was acting on the basis that it was a priority task.
