‘New Alliance’ a misnomer

The United National Front formed on Tuesday cannot be considered as a new political alliance because it comprised a handful of people who had worked with UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for the past several years said Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

Minister Rambukwella said the Opposition Leader had formed the so called alliance in a hush hush manner to overcome the charges levelled against the UNP leadership for bringing the party’s downfall.

Rambukwella said all party leaders who signed the accord for the formation of this United Front had made direct and indirect efforts to bring Ranil Wickremesinghe to power but they would fail in their endeavour this time too.
