Jaffna awakens
An estimated crowd of over 16,000 civilians staged a peaceful demonstration in Jaffna yesterday urging the LTTE to renounce violence and surrender to the Army. The procession had proceeded from Kaithady to Chawakachcheri in the Jaffna peninsula, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. The procession had proceeded in a peaceful manner with the crowd chanting slogans and waving placards urging the LTTE to permit them to live in an environment without violence. The strategically important town of Nedunkerni, an LTTE stronghold in the Mullaitivu district was liberated by troops of the Task Force four of the Sri Lanka Army yesterday, Military spokesman Brigadier, Udaya Nanayakkara said.
