Security provided for schoolchildren in the province should be
maintained at the highest level, said SP Governor, Kumari Balasuriya.
She was speaking at the Provincial Security Council meeting at the
Governor’s Secretariat Auditorium.
She said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has already taken over the rule
of the East, from the brutal LTTE terrorists, through the armed forces,
and there is little left in the North to be captured in order to usher
in peace to the whole country.
The Governor said defeating the angry LTTE terrorists might turn to
various repercussions in the South is why we should be very keen on the
security of schoolchildren in the province. This Security Council
meeting was attended by high ranking Army, Navy, Air Force and Police
high commands and all the other departmental heads in the province.
Zonal Directors of the province explained security measures they had
taken so far for the security of the schoolchildren. SP, ED Director M.J.

going on unabated.

schoolchildren in the division, specially at times when the schools
close for the day, said Galle Zonal ED Director Mrs, K.S.K. Dayasekara.
Police were of opinion that the transport of Petroleum should be done
by trains, in order to avert risks on the way. Once a Petroleum product
fire began it was very difficult to extinguish, and oil bowsers should
not be allowed to park in various towns, and if these parked, there must
be strict security measures, they opined.
Random checks at Hambantota bus stand is a must when buses parked
there in the night, the Police pointed out. Security situation from town
to town was discussed in depth at the meeting.
Meanwhile, Governor Balasuriya said the security situation at
Karapitiya Hospital at which large crowds flocked together were
satisfactory. She also announced that, the Governor’s Office collected a
