VTC courses for unemployed youth
Walapane Somasiri Nuwara Eliya district group

The Vocational Training Centres at Nuwara Eliya, Walapane,
Hanguranketha, Hatton and Helboda (Kotmale) in Nuwara Eliya district
will train unemployed youth in 17 vocational courses.
Those who intend joining the training courses, should forward their
applications to the Assistant Director, District Office, Sri Lanka
Vocational Training Authority, old Kachcheri Building, Nuwara Eliya.
Unhygienic mills, two fined

Two paddy millers who were convicted for keeping paddy mills in an
unhygienic state, were fined Rs. 5,000 each by Dambulla Magistrate Nimal
Ranaweera. These paddy mills were operating in Lenadora and Dambulu Oya
areas. Public Health Inspector R. M. P. G. Gunaratne prosecuted.
Ukuwela dengue prone

According to the Divisional Health Authority, the risk of dengue
fever has arisen in Ukuwela Divisional Secretariat area. During the past
few weeks 43 dengue patients have been identified in this division. The
health officials said that the public are neglecting the health
instructions, and this situation has arisen. Health officials have taken
action to reduce the existing risk of dengue.
Self reliance for Samurdhi families

Sixty three Samurdhi beneficiary families in the Hatton area are to
be offered self employment opportunities and assistance. This project is
under the Hatton Samurdhi Bank Union.
Remembrance of tsunami victims

Ruhunu Service of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation has
organised a series of Buddhist religious events in commemoration of
those killed by the tsunami catastrophe. According to Chief
Administrative Officer Somasiri Wickramasinhe attached to Ruhunu Service
of the SLBC Buddhist Sermons are to be held everyday from December 22 to
26 from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at the precincts of the historic Matara
Bodhi.
Arrangements have also been finalised to relay them alive over the
Ruhunu Service of the SLBC, said the CAO Somasiri Wickramasinhe. |
