Interior Minister orders fresh probe into assault of Sunday Leader Editor

Interior Minister John Ameratunga has directed the Criminal Investigations Department to recommence the investigations into the assault of Sunday Leader Editor-in-Chief Lasantha Wickrematunga, the attempted shooting incident at his house and also other incidents of assault and intimidation of journalists.

The Minister of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Refugees Dr. Jayalath Jayewardena visited the Jaffna Municipal Council on Sunday morning and had a meeting with the Mayor of the Municipal Council Selvan Kandaiyan,the Commissioner Mr. E.Ramalingam and other members of the council belonging to all Tamil parties: the TULF, EPDP, TELO and EPRLF, the Ministry's Media Director Mr. Sathishkumar told the Daily News yesterday.
