A 25-member official delegation led by Fisheries and Ocean Resources Minister Mahinda Wijesekera left for Jaffna yesterday to seek ways and means of reviving the fisheries industry in the North. The Minister will meet members of several organisations representing the fishing community, government officials and several NGOs at Jaffna District Secretariat during his two day tour in the North, a Ministry press release stated. The Minister will discuss problems of the fishing community such as marketing, damages to the community due to the war and difficulty in obtaining fishing gears in the region. Minister Wijesekera will also focus his attention about the present limited time frame granted for the fishermen to fish in the sea and lagoon. |
