Pepper cultivation introduced

The Department of Agriculture has taken steps to commence pepper cultivation in Kurunegala district.

In this connection the suitable areas of the district are due to be selected while the demonstration program which was started in Udagankanda in Dambadeniya electorate is very successful. Therefore the Department of Agriculture has planned to expand this cultivation in the district.

Meanwhile the selected farmers for this purpose will be trained and the necessary facilities for the cultivation are due to be provided by the Department of Agriculture.

Most of the farmers are interested in taking to pepper cultivation because there is a big demand for pepper in the market.
