Job oriented courses essential to solve unemployment

by Ginigathena special correspondent

Today it is essential to launch more job oriented programs to solve the unemployment problem of the country, said the Nuwara Eliya District MP K.K. Piyadasa.

He was speaking at a certificates awarding ceremony held at the new conference hall in Ginigathena in the Nuwara Eliya district.

It was organised by the Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat to award merit certificates for 25 young girls and boys who successfully followed a gem cutting and polishing course conducted by a private firm.

Nuwara Eliya district MP K.K. Piyadasa further said that it was a happy news for him to hear that all the 25 youth who underwent the gem cutting and polishing course would be employed by the same firm which trained them.

In fact if we want to solve the unemployment problem of this island we have to implement more and more job oriented programs.

If our unemployed youth are vocationally trained in different fields it will pave the way for them to find jobs both here and abroad.

Up to date I have received more than 1900 job applications from the youth in the Ambagamuwa Korale alone.

I had a discussion with the Central Regional Development Minister Tissa Attanayake on the unemployment problem of my electorate Maskeliya. (Ambagamuwa Korale).

Accordingly we hope to start few factories in the area to provide employment opportunities for our youth, he said.

Ambagamuwa Div. Secretary M. Sarath Premawansa and Asst. Directress of Planning of the Ambagamuwa DS Anoma Wijeratne also spoke.
