CPC opposition leader on currrent crisis

Central Provincial Council Opposition Leader W.M.P.B. Dissanayake briefing the media about the current crisis in the Central Provincial Council stated that following the budget defeat in the Council, the Governor has no power to sanction expenditure, but the opposition is tolerating this illegality for the time being in order not to harass the public servants who have to collect their remunerations for their needs during the New Year festive period.

The media conference was held at the Kandy Royal Mill Hotel to explain the current crisis in the Central Provincial Council following the budget defeat in the Council recently.

The CPC Opposition Leader stated that grave misappropriation and misuse of public funds have been observed in the Council during the immediate past and that other than spending the Central Government allocations the Council has not earned any funds of its own to implement development programs.

He further said that eight members belonging to the CWC and the Upcountry People's Front are now with the opposition and that they are anxiously waiting for the decisive decision of the CP Governor in the near future.Chief Opposition Whip Wasantha Aluvihare(UNP) also spoke.

UNP Opposition Members D. Madiyugarajah, Sarath Sikurajapathy, Wimal Ranaweera, H.M. Shafi, Senaratne Bandara and D.M. Karunaratne participated.
