Foreign currency smuggler nabbed

A Chinese national residing in Venezuela was nabbed by the Bandaranaike International Airport Customs yesterday trying to smuggle foreign currency (US Dollars, Euro and Chinese Yuan) worth Rs.8.1 million in his hand luggage. The suspect, who also holds Sri Lankan citizenship, was taken into custody and the currency confiscated pending investigations. Drought till October, warns Meteorology Dept

The Department of Meteorology warned yesterday that drought-hit areas would not receive "significant rains" at least until October.

President assures CPC Trade Unions :

No final decision on third player without consulting all parties

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday assured Trade Union Leaders of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation that no final decision on the third player in the petroleum industry will be taken without prior consultation with all parties concerned including the Trade Unions.
