Nutrition program extended

The Ministry of Education has extended its on-going nutrition program targetting primary school children (Grade 1) in rural and disadvantaged districts, to cover selected deprived schools in the slum dwellings of the Colombo district.

The Education Ministry in a release said this out-reach program developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Colombo Municipality, will cover seven schools in the Colombo North area and expected to attract more children to schools, will commence immediately.

This program will include the provision of a nutritious mid-morning meal to Grade 1 and 2 children, a health-check, nutritious education and other measures for prevention of communicable diseases. It is expected to expand this program next year to cover more schools in Central Colombo, Colombo South, Colombo North and Borella.

This program was officially launched last week at the Education Ministry.
