PM to open Colombo Scout Camporee today

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will open the 41st Scout Camporee of the Colombo District Branch of the Sri Lanka Scout Association at the Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo today. The Camporee will continue till August 22.

Around 2,000 Scouts and 2,000 Cub Scouts would participate at this event. The theme of the Camporee this year is "One Country One Promise".

The Camporee provides opportunities for youngsters from different ethnic groups, religious, races and different parts of the country to camp under the same roof. The Scout Camporee, the main event of the Colombo District is organised by Asst. District Commissioner Capt. Kithsiri Jayatilleke and is supported by many leaders of Scout groups in Colombo.

This event is opened to the public on Friday (20) and Saturday (21) where the organisers expect around 10,000 visitors.

The Camporee will feature a Talent Show, Skill-O-Rama, Camp fires apart from other games and gadget building. The Cub Scouts Day will be on Saturday (21) and the Girl Guides Day will be on Friday.
