Jana Saraniya programme to be launched

The Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Ministry will launch a national level programme named "Jana Saraniya" with a view to assist Samurdhi beneficiary families to overcome their socio-economic hardships.

The initial Jana Saraniya programme will be held at Gankanda Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Pelmadulla from August 20 to 22. A trade exhibition will also be held during these three days to raise funds for the Jana Saraniya programme, Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

The Minister said the proceeds of this trade exhibition will be utilised to overcome the shelter problem of Samurdhi beneficiary families and develop the schools in most difficult areas. Under this program, assistance will be provided to one Samurdhi family selected from each Divisional Secretariat division to construct their home.

The Ministry will also introduce the "Sisu Shakthi lottery" to upgrade the facilities of undeveloped schools selected from each Divisional Secretariat level,she said.

As a part of the programme, arrangements have also been made to felicitate Samurdhi Development Officers (SDOs) and Samurdhi Managers who are Samurdhi resource persons implementing the Samurdhi programme to eradicate poverty among low income groups. The felicitation ceremony to the SDOs and Samurdhi Managers of Ratnapura district will be held at the Gankanda Madya Maha Vidyalaya on August 20. At this ceremony, felicitation awards will be presented to 160 Samurdhi officers,she said.

Meanwhile, the Samurdhi Ministry will also introduce a special housing loan scheme for the benefit of Samurdhi beneficiary families to overcome their shelter needs. Under this loan scheme, a Rs.30,000 housing loan will be granted to the needy Samurdhi families at six per cent annum to construct the home,the Minister said.
