Parliament Council mooted
The
Constitutional Council (CC)
introduced under the 17th Amendment
to the Constitution is to be
replaced by a five member
Parliamentary Council (PC),
according to the amendments
envisaged. The five members include
the Speaker, the Prime Minister, the
Opposition Leader, a nominee MP of
the Premier and a nominee MP of the
Opposition Leader.

Kandy Mayor dismissed
The post of
Mayor of the Kandy Municipal Council
fell vacant yesterday with the
decision taken by Central Province
Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake to
dismiss former Mayor LB Aluvihare
from the post. The Chief Minister
issued a Gazette Notification giving
effect to the expulsion.
