Late Minister rendered great service- Minister Susil Premajayantha

The late Lakshman Jayakody has rendered a great service towards the country, people and the SLFP as a principled politician, said Petroleum Industries Minister and UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha in a condolence message yesterday. A close confidante of late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike and at the time of his death he served as an advisor to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

As a Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister in the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Government of 1970-77 he helped to propagate policies of non-alignment. Later he served as Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Minister in 1994-2000 PA Government and there were many lessons politicians could learn from his life. 'On behalf of the UPFA I wish to extend our condolences to the members of his family,' Susil Premajayantha said in his message.
