Appropriation Bill to be presented

Appropriation Bill for 2011 will be presented in parliament in the third week of October for its first reading. The Budget 2011 will be formulated with greater focus on the Government's responsibility to transform the country as one of the emerging economies in Asia.

The budget aims the completion of mega development projects initiated by the Government across the country, Finance and Planning Ministry Spokesman said. Meanwhile, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed all Ministers to handover information of all development projects carried out by Ministries to the Treasury.

The Government would prepare budget proposals with a view to increase State investments while targeting a double digit growth in the future.

It also plans to develop the agriculture sector as a measure to boost economic growth while seeking to promote tourism as one of the main source of income. The budget will also address the livelihood facilities with other infrastructure in the North.
