Locally manufactured BTI to be used from today

The Government is to use the locally manufactured BTI bacteria from
today in a bid to stop the spread of dengue.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena told the media yesterday that
the locally manufactured BTI will be used for the first time in the
Colombo district today.
The BTI would later be used in other parts of the country as well.
No ‘market’ for ganja in Dambulla EC

Three suspects selling ganja and illicit liquor on the sly at the
Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre premises were arrested by the
Dambulla police during a raid Monday afternoon. Police also seized 15
packets of ganja and a stock of illicit liquor from their possession.
Investigations are continuing.

The sun travels directly on Sri Lanka from August 28 to September 8
and today it appears exactly above Periyaarichchaal, Shravasthipura,
Kituluwa, and Ichchampalmpaththi, Meteorologist Damayanthi
Indiketihewage told the Daily News yesterday.
She said there will be scattered thunder showers in the Western,
Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, Galle and Matara districts. There
will also be thunder showers in the western slopes of the central hills.
There will be evening thunder showers around three o’clock in the
Eastern and Northern parts of the country today.
Water cut
Water supply to Kolonnawa UC area, IDH Road, Madinnagoda,
Moragasmulla, Nawala and Rajagiriya will be interrupted from 8 am to 7
pm today as the CEB will curtail electricity supplies to facilitate some
repairs, said the NWSDB in a press release yesterday.

Exmo 2010, engineering and Technological Exhibition organized by the
Moratuwa University Engineering Faculty will be held at the university

Fines thrive Govt coffers

The income added to the Government revenue from fines enforced on the
cases forwarded to the Courts by the Vice Division of Maharagama Police
from January 1 to June 30 amounts to Rs 2,060,500.
Rs 1,081,500 was collected from Heroin cases forwarded to the Courts.
The second highest fines amounting to Rs 573,000 were collected from
the cases on illicit liquor.
Needs help
U G Wimalasena of no 506/179 Jayasiripura, Bakamuna, Polonnaruwa is
suffering from acute kidney failure. Consultant Nephrologist, Kandy
General Hospital has recommended a kidney transplant to save his life.
The surgery will be done free of charge. But he has been asked to keep
Rs 300,000 ready for dialysis treatment, medication and other medical
needs.
Wimalasena says he is unable to bear this expenditure by himself due
to his present financial plight.
He requests donors and the public to assist his cause by sending
whatever financial contributions possible to help expedite the surgery.

Assistant Secretary Stanley Marcus Fernando, 69, needs urgent Coronary
Bypass Graft surgery.

Ariyawathie recovering

the Kamburupitiya Andapana hospital to remove 18 nails driven into her
body by her cruel Saudi Employer is now progressing well and she will be
discharged from hospital Thursday, September 2 as her health condition
is satisfactory said Consultant Surgeon Dr Kamal Weeratunge.
Family Day at Sri Palee

Soldier dies in accident
Chamikara WEERASINGHJE
A soldier died and two officers were injured when an Army truck
skidded off the road and went down a precipice yesterday. The accident
took place at Galagedara in the Madawala area of Kandy at 8 pm, Police
said.
The Army truck was bound to Kurunegala from Mahiyangana. Police said
the truck belongs to the Vavuniya Army Camp.
Underworld leader dies in hospital

Infamous underworld leader “Olcott.” died after admission to the
Gampaha hospital. He was arrested by the STF in Kurunegala, sources said
The suspect reportedly suffered injuries while he was being taken to
Colombo in an STF jeep when he attempted to escape custody.
The suspect was first admitted to the Minuangoda hospital and later
transferred to the Gampaha hospital.
Remanded for possessing exam papers
A man possessing Year Five Scholarship examination papers was
remanded by Additional Judge Devika Wimalasiri.
Police produced the accused before Anuradhapura court. Anuradhapura
police arrested the man on information provided via Commissioner General
of Exams and the Zonal Educational Office.
One hundred and fifty nine sets of photo copies of the Year Five
Scholarship exam papers were found in his possession.
The police have started further investigations. YG
