External Ministry follows Ariyawathie's case

The External Affairs Ministry is closely following up on the case of Ariyawathie, who has alleged ill-treatment and physical harm by her employer in Saudi Arabia, External Affairs Ministry said in a press release.

Sri Lanka's Envoy in Riyadh Ambassador Ahmad Jawad, on the instructions of the Ministry, is taking up this matter with the Saudi authorities, urging them to secure expeditious investigations and justice for the victim.

A delegation from the Foreign Employment Bureau currently visiting Riyadh, led by Chairman Kingsly Ranawaka, will assist Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Riyadh in making representations on behalf of Ariyawathie to the authorities in Saudi Arabia.

External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, met Ambassador of Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman Al Jammaz, yesterday and sought his intervention in the dispensation of justice to the victim, the press release said.
