Two water schemes to be commissioned
Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and German
Ambassador Jens Ploetner will open two water supply schemes built at
Galagoda and Hikkaduwa on September 5 at 9.30 am. These are two sub
projects come under the main project which cost Rs 4,896 million.
The German Government provides 25.2 million Euro for the entire
project, Media Coordinator to the Minister Lalith Rohana said.
According to Rohana the Sri Lankan Government's contribution for the
entire project is Rs 1,222 million.
Construction of a new treatment plant, laying of 24 Kilometres long
transmission mains, laying of 156 Kilometres long distribution main in
Balapitiya, Ambalangoda, Rajagama Pradeshiya Sabha areas and
construction of three water reservoirs, one tower and a booster station
to provide water to new areas in Kosgoda, Ambalangoda, Galagoda and
Hikkaduwa comes under the second phase of the same project, he said.
The project was implemented with the financial grants from the
Governments of Germany and Sri Lanka as an effort to reconstruct the
water supply infrastructure in the tsunami affected areas.
The project will provide water for 194,000 consumers in three
Pradeshiya Sabhas, Balapitiya, Ambalangoda and Rajagama. This is an
increase of around 100,000 water consumers adding around 20,000 new
connections, he added. NG
