The Matara Pallimulla Peakwella mountain has faced a earthslip threat following recent heavy rains on Thursday November 26. A spokesman for the Matara Disaster Management Centre said a minor earthslip occurred on Thursday night and loosened soil and boulders from a section of the mountain fell on the Matara-Tangalla road causing obstruction to traffic. Nominations on December 17:

The Presidential Election will be held on January 26, 2010. Nominations will be accepted from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. on December 17, Elections Commissioner announced yesterday. This will be the country’s fifth Presidential poll to elect the sixth Executive President.
