Over 960 resettled to sit O/L

Some 960 resettled students have applied to sit for the Ordinary
Level Examination. According to the Jaffna district Education Director
Mrs. A. Vethanayagam, these applications were scrutinised and had been
sent to the Examinations Department. Meanwhile, she said, that all the
students who had been released from the welfare centres could apply
until November 30.
Kalmunai Municipal Council’s Opposition Member N. Amirthalingam said
the Municipality should be dissolved as corruption, bribery and
partiality were rampant. Speaking at the Council’s meeting he requested
the President and the Eastern Province Chief Minister to dissolve it.
Social Security and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda said
that the meeting of Tamil political parties held in Switzerland was
considered as an initial step towards finding a common stand but no
final decision was taken there. However, he expressed the hope that
there were opportunities for the parties to come to a common
understanding..
