Agro-Tourism village soon

Plans are afoot to set up the first Biodiversity Agro-Tourism village
covering an area of over 444 acres spanning four divisional secretariats
of Homagama, Padukka, Hanwella and Seethawaka in the Colombo district.
Addressing the media in Colombo, Trade, Marketing Development,
Co-operatives and Consumer Services Minister Bandula Gunawardene said
the estimated cost of the project is Rs.3000 million.
The project is expected to be completed in three phases by 2015.
The Minister said the proposed land for the project is rich in scenic
beauty and biodiversity. The village would definitely be a major
attraction for naturalists as well as tourists.
The 444 acres of scenic spot will be developed as a Biodiversity
Agro-Tourism village by the Western Provincial Council Agriculture,
Agrarian Development and Environment Ministry.
Western Provincial Council Agriculture, Agrarian Development, and
Environment Minister Udaya Gammanpila said the location has been
identified as a flood retention area. The village will be designed to
mitigate the flood and negative impact on the environment, he said. |
