Royal, Antonians, Isipatana and Peterites in convincing wins

The Carlton-Sri Lanka Rugby Sevens 2009 organised by the Tharunyata
Hetak Organization in collaboration with the Interim Committee of the
SLRFU, got off to a flying start at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

Sugathadasa stadium yesterday which Isipatana won 26-7.

In the curtain raiser of the schools tournament, in pool ‘A’ Royal
made the second highest score of 50-0 by beating Uva Province and then
overcame St. Anne’s by 34-0 to enter the quarter finals with the help of
their leading try scorer Mushin Faleel who touched down five times while
Chamara Dabare scored three tries.
St. Anne’s took second place of pool ‘A’ by beating Uva Province 37-5
in their second match.
St. Anthony’s made the highest score of the tournament by beating
Sabaragamuwa Province 55-0 and then overcame Maliyadeva 26-7 with the
help of I. Chanaka, their leading try scorer of the tournament (four
tries) to book their place in the quarter final as the winners of pool
‘B’. Maliyadeva was second in pool ‘B’ by beating Sabaragamuwa Province
26-0.
Isipatana emerged winners of pool ‘C’ by beating Nalanda 15-0 and by
defeating Vidyartha 26-7 in their second match. Nalanda was placed
second in pool ‘C’ by overcoming Vidyartha 17-7. Prasad Devinda scored
three tries for Isipatana in their two games.
Danushka Ranjan, Shenal Dias and Sandun Herath helped St. Peter’s
College to finish on top of pool ‘D’ by beating Carey 48-0 and Prince of
Wales 21-0.
Uva Province, Sabaragamuwa Province, Vidyartha and Carey finished
last in their pools and took part on the Bowl semi finals.
In the first Bowl semi-final, Carey made their mark by beating Uva
Province 32-0.
In the second Bowl semi final, Sabaragamuwa gave a gallant display
against Vidyartha but the lads from Kandy managed to score a 24-14 win
over Sabaragamuwa Province to storm into the Bowl finals against Carey
College today.
Royal will meet Prince of Wales, St. Anthony’s will lock horns with
Nalanda, St. Peter’s will take on St. Anne’s and Isipatana will confront
Maliyadeva in their quarter final matches of the schools tournament
today. |
