SLAF helicopter crashes

An MI 24 fighter helicopter of the Sri Lanka Air Force crashed in the Buttala area due to a technical error.

Sri Lanka Air Force media spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said four airmen including the pilots were killed.

Badalkumbura Police said the helicopter had crashed near Paravian Ella area around 1.20 p.m.

No further information was available at the time this edition went to press.

Squadron Leader E. L. Dodanmaluwa (Pilot), Flight Lieutenant M. A. R. A. Fernando (Pilot), Corporal S. J. Sirisena (Air Gunner) and Corporal B. M. S. C. B. Rathnayake (Air Gunner) died in the air crash.
