The President's Office in a media release, last Saturday denied a news item which appeared in a Sinhala daily, alleging that MP Rajitha Senaratne has stated at a media briefing that he has given President Kumaratunga and her son certain State lands.

Nearly 200,000 families hit by drought in NCP

The drought in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts is worsening and nearly 200,000 families are undergoing severe hardships, North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake told the Daily News yesterday.
