Free medico-legal camp at Medawachchiya

The Medico-Legal Society of Sri Lanka in association with Lions Club of Kelaniya will hold a free camp at the Central College, Medawachchiya from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Saturday August 21.

A team of specialists and senior G.Ps from the private sector and from the Anuradhapura General Hospital led by Dr. Lakshman Weerasena, President of the Medico-Legal Society of Sri Lanka and Chairman, Free Health Camps Islandwide will screen the patients with a Mobile Lab Service provided with the compliments of Mediquick.

A Legal Aid Camp will be led by former President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Upali Gooneratne assisted by members of the Legal Aid Commission and a member of the Child Protection Society.

They will attend to victims of sexual abuse such as rape and incest and child and women abuse following consumption of alcohol which is very common in this area and plan a rehabilitation program. Colombo Friends-in-Need Society led by Jameel will provide free artificial limbs made to measure through a mobile workshop at the venue.

Program Director Forut, M. F. Marickar with the assistance of the staff will screen the neighbouring villages for victims of land mines and others needing artificial limbs and refer them to the health camp and also those victims of sexual abuse and alcohol related crimes.

They have also provided some of the essential medicines and will organise all the arrangements at the venue.

The Lions Club of Kelaniya led by Past District Governor, Lion Anura Perera with its President Prasantha Perera and other members have donated the essential drugs and will provide board and lodging for the medical and legal team including transport.

The rest of the medicines were donated by Deshamanya H. K. Dharmadasa and the drug manufacturing as well as drug importing firms in Sri Lanka.
