US$ 75 m syndicated loan:
SLT to inject Rs 5 b into Mobitel
Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), will inject Rs 5
billion into its wholly owned subsidiary Mobitel ( Pvt) Ltd on a
staggered basis over the next six months for an ambitious
modernization program of its countrywide network and also to expand
its coverage. The expansion program is expected to be completed by
end 2011, which is also the end of the financial year of Mobitel,
will also see the stage set for the Mobitel subscriber base to be
increased from the present 4.2 million to the 5 million mark, Sri
Lanka Telecom and Mobitel Chairman Nimal Welgama told Daily News
Business yesterday.

Increase in computer sales in provinces
Computer literacy in Sri Lanka is around 15
percent and this has recently increased sharply mainly due
government policies. The government targets over 50 percent computer
literacy rate in the next five years. EZY Group of Companies CEO
Shafraz Hamzadeen said at the launching of Trend Micro yesterday
that many duty waivers that were offered by the government have had
a positive impact on the industry.

Dockyard commissions Bollard Pull Test in Trincomalee
The Colombo Dockyard, commissioned a 250 tonne
Bollard Pull Test Facility in Trincomalee recently. Colombo Dockyard
Managing Director Mangala Yapa said they commissioned this Test
Facility in Clappenburg Point, China Bay Trincomalee.
