Nominations over
A large number of recognized political parties
and independent groups are in the fray to select 225 legislators for
the 7th Parliament at the General election scheduled to be held on
April 8. The period granted by the Elections Commissioner to accept
nominations ended at noon yesterday.

Anti-Tank mines seized
Mannar Police seized three Anti-Tank Mines on
Thursday, buried in a thicket in Mannar. Police Spokesman
Prishanatha Jayakody said the AT mines each weighed 16 kg. They were
found buried at the 2 km post on the Mannar-Kalpadu road. The mines
were seized by a group of Police led by Mannar Police HQI.
