Fathima Rahna (10) of 475/61 B, Shell Gas Road, Kuruniyawattta,
Wellampitiya, a grade five student attached to Hemamalee Balika Maha
Vidyalaya, Colombo 10 is suffering from end stage renal failure and is
warded at the Peradeniya General Hospital awaiting a kidney transplant.
Her father T. Rasooldeen says that doctors attending on her have
advised him to keep money to purchase accessories and medication needed
during the operation stage.
He says he is unable to meet his daughter's financial needs due to
his financial plight.
He requests philanthropists and the public to assist his daughter's
cause by sending financial contributions.

Handicrafts sales complex opening ceremony postponed
The opening ceremony of the Handicrafts Sales Complex established by
the National Crafts Council scheduled to be held on March 1 has been
postponed.
The date of the opening ceremony will be notified later. (SKM)
Guli Guna Suwanda
The 12th death anniversary of veteran journalist, newspaper editor
and author Gunadasa Liyanage falls on March 12.
A commemorative ceremony to mark the occasion organized by the
Gunadasa Liyanage Memorial Foundation themed Guli Guna Suwanda will be
held at the Colombo Public Library Auditorium on March 12 at 4 p.m.
Kotte Naga Viharadhipati Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha thera will preside.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara, Arisen
Ahubudu, Kala Keerthi Edwin Ariyadasa and Prof. Kusuma Karunaratne will
be among the speakers.
A short film depicting Liyanage's life story will also be screened at
the venue on this day.
Other highlights will include distribution of free schoolbooks among
needy children and an exhibition of Gunadasa Liyanage's books.
Prophet Mohammed's birthday celebrations
Prophet Muhammed's Birthday celebrations, organized by the Galle
Muslim Cultural Association will be held together with a public meeting
and award ceremony at the Southlands Balika Vidyalaya, Fort, Galle.
Chairman, GMCA Dr. Nusair Samsudeen will preside. Deshabandu M. Macky
Hashim and Seyed Abdul Cader Mashoor Mowlana will be the chief guests.
The winners of all island oratorical contests in Sinhala, Tamil and
English will speak at the occasion. Moulavi M.A.C. Halith will conduct
the proceedings.
Islamic lecture
An Islamic lecture organised by Dharunnadhvah Lilkhairiyath, an
association of Muslim men and boys, on Ongoing portending Signs of the
Last Day by As Sheik Moulavi Mujahid ibn Razeen (Sadee) will be held, at
Jamiul Falah Jumma Mosque, 178, Layards Broadway, Colombo 14 on February
28 after Luhar prayers.

failure. Consultant Nephrologist Dr. A.L.M. Nazar who is treating him
has recommended a transplant to save his life. Dissanayake requests a

Free cabs for the ill

The Derana Cabs in compliance with the Red Cross Society of Matale
has inaugurated a welfare service so as to facilitate the patients who
face sudden illness.
Within the city limits they offer free transportation of patients to
the Matale District Hospital or any private medical institution at the
will of the patient or his guardian.
Matale Press Association expressed their gratitude to the Derana Cab
Service and the Red Cross for their exemplary services.
Women's role in politics
South Asian Women in Media, Sri Lanka, will hold a seminar on the
role of women in politics in Sri Lanka at the Lakshman Kadirgamar
Centre, Horton Place on March 2 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The main addresses will be made by Prof Kamala Liyanage of the
Peradeniya University and Kamala Sachitanandam of the Vilutu
Organization.
The discussion to follow will be on 'political experience of women
and challenges before us'.
