Around 65,000 Policemen for polls duty

Around 65,000 Police personnel will be deployed for April 8 election duty.

Police Election Unit Senior DIG Gamini Nawaratne said the Police Department will provide comprehensive security during the election. A contingent of 65,000 Police personnel out of 80,000 from the Police Department will be on election duty round the clock.

"The rest of 15,000 Police personnel will be engaged in administrative duty," he added.

The Police contingent will carry out duty in co-ordination with the Armed Forces during the election in all districts.

Nawaratne said Police personnel were instructed to wear Police uniform during election duty. "Not a single Policeman will be allowed to carry out duty in civil clothes," he added.
