Talks on International Buddhist Film Festival : A discussion in connection with holding an International Buddhist Film Festival jointly organised by the Government Film Corporation, BMICH Foundation and Light of Asia Foundation to commemorate 2600 years of Buddha’s Enlightenment was held at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. President’s Buddhist Affairs Coordinator Ven. Watinapaha Somananda Thera, Ven. Kottapiye Seelawansa Thera, Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and a group of officials including Additional Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath also participated in the discussion. Fresh talks today

The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) yesterday said they have not given instructions to their members to resort to Trade Union action or engage in unlawful activities in the Estates in the back drop of employers’ failure to come to an agreement over its demands for a salary hike.

Sixty fourth UNGA session opens on September 15

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) opens its 64th session on Tuesday, September 15 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, sources said. The annual general debate which traditionally features statements by dozens of Heads of State and Government as well as Ministers, will begin on Wednesday September 23 and will continue till end of the month.

To secure GSP+ facility:

Govt, other bodies hail efforts of business community

The Government and other leading bodies have commended the efforts taken by the business community to secure the GSP+ facility. A high-powered business delegation will visit the European Union shortly to lobby for the GSP+ facility.
