Nestomalt Marathon second stage on Sunday

The second stage of the Nestomalt marathon will be conducted on Sunday in Ampara. The event is organised by Sri Lanka Police and Education Department, is sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd for the Nestomalt Trophy. The first stage was completed last week and in Anuradhapura.


External Affairs Manager Nestle Lanka Ltd Bandula Egodage handing over the sponsorship cheque for the second stage of the Nestomalt Marathon to be held in Ampara this Sunday, to Ranjit Weerasooriya DIG Eastern Range. The ceremony took place in Ampara on Tuesday.

The open marathon for men and women and the school section for boys and girls of the Ampara district will be worked off on this day. Competitors from any part of the country is eligible to compete in the open marathon. Winners in this category will receive Rs. 10,000, 7,500 and 5,000 in addition to trophies and certificates.

The schools category will see the winners take Rs. 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000 respectively along with trophies and medals. Open event conducted nearly two decades have produced many runners for this even who have reached the national level. In fact they had the distinction of representing the country at international level and brought honour to the country.

The outstation athletes are eagerly await this event every year as this is the event that paves the way for aspirant long distance runners to make their way to the series running.

Ampara district will see the youngsters make a strong bid to enter the arena to test their capabilities in long distance running on this day. (BP)
