The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has commenced a special program
through the Colombo National Hospital to provide diagnosis, screening
and medical care for public sector employees attached to state
institutions.
Colombo National Hospital, Director Dr. Hector Weerasinghe
looks on while doctors examine workers attached to the
Government Factory, Kolonnawa during the health camp. |
The program commenced from the Government factory in Kolonnawa
recently and will be conducted in all other Government Departments.
The program was initiated after discovering that a significant number
of public sector employees suffer from various types of ailments without
their knowledge.
The ministry had discovered that many public sector workers suffer
from various sicknesses but they hardly seek medical treatment. Even
after seeking medical treatment, it is discontinued.
According to the Ministry, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart
aliments, eye problems, skin diseases and dental problems are the most
common health issues among public sector employees. Female employees are
mostly affected by breast and pelvic cancer and other related health
problems.
