ITN news reader dies in crash

Veteran journalist and an announcer Suresh Wickremesinghe of Independent Television Network who met with an accident at Beddagana several days ago succumbed to his injuries at the National Hospital Colombo yesterday.

The accident occurred when a truck plying from Kotte crashed into his motorbike at Beddagana junction. His wife Wasana Wickremesinghe too sustained injuries in the accident. Suresh was receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital, Colombo. He joined the ITN staff as a trainee journalist and ascended the top rung of his journalistic career.

He showed exceptional performance as a news presenter, news reporter and a cameraman. An old boy of the Nalanda College, Colombo, he acquired a diploma in cinematic art and journalism from the Youth Services Council and National Film Corporation. His remains are lying at his residence No 372/2. Pahalagama , Kosgama and the funeral will be held on September 13.
