Sri Lanka tennis nationals in its final stages

The Tennis Nationals will be brought to a close on Sunday, September
13, with quite a few finals commencing at 2 p.m. to end with the awards
ceremony at the SLTA.
Those that excelled right through the championship as expected was,
Harshana Godamanne the reigning champion, Rajeev Rajapakse the equally
talented, and the very promising T. Dineshkanthan.
The star performers Godamanne and Rajapakse have worked their way
through to be pitted against each other, in what could be a very
absorbing final for the singles title.
An interesting clash for the women’s singles champion will be
witnessed between two strong contenders in Amirtha Muthiah and Nilpul
Gunesekara yesterday’s play at the, SLTA courts was confined to the
men’s and women’s semi finals doubles matches with the odd semifinal
mixed doubles match.

Semi-Finals - Men’s Doubles - H. Godamanne and R. Rajapakse bt: S.
Gomesz and A. Hewa Kottage 6/0, 6/0, 6/2.
S. Athukorale and R. Cooray bt: R. de Silva and J. Wijesekera 6/4,
6/4, 6/4.
Semi-finals - Women Doubles Shalini de Silva and A. Muttiah bt: V.
Wichremaratne and R. Sivakanthan 6/0, 6/1.
Shobini de Silva and R. Fernando bt: N. Gunesekara and K. Herath 5/7,
6/2, 6/2.
Mixed Doubles Semi finals Nilushi Fernando and R. de Silva bt: Kemali
Herath, and Y. Dewage 3/6, 7/5, 6/1. |
