M-seat reservation system for Railways
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Transport Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma to enter into a memorandum of understanding for Sri
Lanka Railways with M/s Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd. for the implementation of the
M-seat Reservation System and to open the possibility of reservation of
seats through the system, to all other service providers.
Sri Lanka Railways intends to introduce more trains with advance
booking facilities under its Value Added Service program.
Railways explored the possibility of utilizing the mobile radio
communication technology of the existing cellular service providers to
overcome the disadvantage of the present system.
Development of Tangalle Town Centre
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Urban Development
and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to award
contract for construction of a commercial complex on engineering design
and build basis to the Central Engineering Consultancy subject to
approval of rates by the Standing Technical Committee of the
Constriction and Engineering Services Ministry.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 75 m which is funded by the
UDA and pre sale of shop spaces.
Establishment of National Centre for Non-Destructive Testing (NCNDT)
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Science and
Technology Minister Tissa Vitarana to establish a National Centre for
Non-Destructive Testing (NCNDT) at a cost of Rs. 370 mn, which includes
equipment, tools, vehicles and furniture to be spread over a period of
four years from 2010.
The main objective of this establishment is to increase the
incorporation of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods into the
production process and create skilled and professional technicians in
the field.
The proposed centre would serve industrialists as well as provide
trainees for those who wish to obtain necessary service in NDT. it would
also help to develop careers in the construction and manufacturing
sector.
Construction of six storeyed building complex for University of
Kelaniya
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Higher Education
Minister W.A. Wiswa Warnapala to construct a six storeyed building
complex for University of Kelaniya with a floor area of 6,000 sqm
amounting to a total estimated cost of Rs. 400 million, on self finance
basis.
The University of Kelaniya is one of the biggest universities in Sri
Lanka in terms of student population. This step is a major improvement
to further increase of student intake, introduction of new degree
courses and the increase of the quality of education.
Construction of new building for the Faculty of Graduate Studies of
University of Colombo
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Higher Education
Minister W.A. Wiswa Warnapala to construct a seven storeyed building
with a floor area of 70,000 sqft for the Faculty of Graduate Studies of
the University of Colombo at a cost of Rs. 405 million and to implement
the project with the private sector partnership and foreign
participation within two years commencing in 2009/2010.
The proposed building will be constructed in the University Premises
and will also have the capacity to provide facilities for other
faculties of the university as well.
Construction Industry Development Act to Parliament
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Construction and
Engineering Service Minister Rajitha Senarathna to present the
Construction Industry Development Act, which will facilitate the
development and regulation of construction Industry, in parliament.
The formulation of this Act commenced in 1995 mainly with the purpose
of converting the Institute for Construction Training and Development (ICTAD),
to a statutory authority.
Procurement of DMU Rolling Stock for Passenger Transport by SLR
under the China Exim Bank concessionary credit facility
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Transport Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma to procure two Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) AC, 07
Nos. DMU UC (up-country) and four DMU KV (Kelani Valley) at a price
negotiated and agreed between Cabinet appointed Negotiating Committee (CANC)
and the supplier M/s China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock
Corporation Ltd. (CSR) as given in the CANC minutes dated 06.09.09 at US
$ 101,049,800.00.
And to sign a contraction between the Government and the supplier for
the procurement as indicated in the CANC minutes dated 06.09.09 and
including the agreed delivery period and the other terms and conditions
subject to grant of China Exim Bank Credit facility for this
procurement.
And to make provision in the China Exim Bank Credit for 5 percent of
the total price for the period of 5 years and to negotiate these items
with the supplier after the price list has submitted by them following
completion of final working drawings of items.
