President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the Kelaniya flyover yesterday morning. Highways and Road Development Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Labour Minister Mervyn Silva and Ven. Valamitiyawe Kusaladamma Nayake Thera are also in the picture. Alex Smale, Project Director and Grahan Russel, Project Manager were also present. This flyover was completed within 60 days. Construction on the second flyover will begin on March 31 in Panadura.

India will never allow separate State in Lanka: pm

India will never allow a separate independent state for Tamils to be carved out from Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said here yesterday.

UNP, SLMC to contest EP poll

The United National Party has decided to contest the Eastern Provincial elections, UNP Secretary General Tissa Attanayake said. The decision has been taken at the Working Committee Meeting held at Opposition Leader's office last morning, Lankapuvath said. UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will discuss the elections process with other parties.

Over 500 Tigers killed in 20 days

More than 501 Tigers have been killed in battle in the last 20 days, the Army said. Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, the military spokesman said that an unknown number of LTTE cadres and 223 soldiers have also been injured in the clashes from March 5 to March 24. Fifty soldiers died during this period.

SriLankan launches 'Smiles':

Emirates pull out, no hinder

SriLankan airlines will function smoothly with effect from March 31 even after the Emirates management pulls out from alliance, said Head of Worldwide Passenger Sales, SriLankan, Manoj Gunawardena. He said however they gained valuable knowledge from the Emirates management which was with the airline for a decade.
