UNP, SLMC to contest EP poll

The United National Party (UNP) has decided to contest the Eastern Provincial (EP) elections, UNP Secretary General Tissa Attanayake said.

The decision has been taken at the Working Committee Meeting held at Opposition Leader's office last morning, Lankapuvath said. UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will discuss the elections process with other parties.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has also decided to independently contest to the Eastern Provincial Council, SLMC General Secretary Hussan Ali said. The SLMC will submit their nominations to Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara districts for the upcoming Provincial Council polls.

The SLMC will take the final decision in this regard at the party's High Command meeting scheduled to be held today, he added.
