Mrs. Violet Wickremasinghe's funeral today

The funeral of Violet Wickremasinghe, mother of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, will be held today at the General Cemetery, Kanatte.

Lanka hopes for normality in Tibet

Sri Lanka sincerely hopes that normality will return to the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday.

In a release issued last night, the Ministry said it hoped that the disturbances will be brought to an end amicably with the Buddhist concept of "Ahimsa".

"As the world looks forward to the 29th Summer Olympics which would be held in Beijing China, the Government of Sri Lanka hopes that this greatest of sporting events will not be politicized.

We further hope that the Beijing Olympics will bring the athletes from across the world to Beijing under the slogan "one world one dream" which reflects the essence and the universal values of the Olympic spirit, unity, friendship, progress, harmony, participation and dreams," it said.

Sri Lanka has maintained very close relations with China going back to the 3rd century B.C. The Government of Sri Lanka wishes to reaffirm its adherence to the "One China Policy" and the territorial integrity of China, the Ministry said.
