Five LTTEers arrested with explosives at Modera

COLOMBO: Police arrested five LTTE suspects with 4 kg of C4
explosives from a house in Aluth Mawatha, Modera in a pre-dawn search
operation, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.
Briefing the media at the weekly security news conference at the MCNS
yesterday Brigadier Nanayakkara said following a tip-off police
surrounded a house in the Aluth Mawatha area in Modera yesterday morning
and arrested five suspects along with 4kgs of C4 explosives, 10 electric
detonators and four time devices.
Meanwhile, police at a road block arrested four LTTE suspects
attempting to abduct a Manager working at an Insurance Company in
Pomppaimadu, Vavuniya on Monday evening.
One of the LTTE cadres swallowed a cyanide and was admitted to the
Anuradhapura hospital. "A hand grenade and a pistol were recovered from
the LTTE cadres," he added.
Meanwhile, Air Force fighter jets pounded an LTTE military logistics
storage facility yesterday at around 9.20 am causing heavy damages to
the Tigers, Air Force Wing Commander Andrew Wijesuriya said. The air
raid was carried out following accurate information provided by the
ground intelligence sources and air surveillance. "The pilot confirmed
the target was precise and caused heavy damages," he added.
He reiterated that intelligence sources confirmed three LTTE cadres
were killed and eight others injured in an air raid carried out by the
Air Force at the Sea Tiger Coordinating Centre located in Puthukudiruppu
on Saturday |
