Indian corporates on fact finding mission

Competitive terms a must to attract best in oil rigging:

Sri Lanka and India should offer globally competitive terms and conditions in oil exploration to attract the best in the world, Indian Minister for Commerce Jairam Ramesh told the Daily News Business. "When India was exploring oil and petroleum resources in 1986 by the famous Reliance Group we offered globally attractive terms and conditions, which enabled India to be competitive in the area, Minister Ramesh told a media conference in Colombo," yesterday.

Virtusa records US$ 42.5m revenue in 3Q

Virtusa's revenue increased 26 per cent year over year and 5.5 per cent sequentially, to US$ 42.5 million for third quarter of fiscal 2008, General Manager, Virtusa, Madu Ratnayake said. Virtusa also reported third quarter income from operations of US$ 5.9 million. This represents an increase of 44 per cent compared to US$ 4.1 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2007.

Brandix scores big in India

Visiting Minister State for Commerce of India, Jairam Ramesh said Brandix Lanka was the most non-controversial company to set up business in the Indian Special Economic Zones. Brandix invested US $ 50 million to set up business in Vishakapatnam, India in the 1,000-acre park two years ago.

Sri Lanka’s tea export industry reached two Important milestones in 2007. For the first time in the history of the tea industry Rupee earnings crossed the Rs. 100 billion mark. Total income from exports in 2007 was Rs. 113 bln up a healthy 24% on the 2006 figure of Rs. 91 bln. More importantly Sri Lanka’s tea became a US billion dollar industry for the first time in its history. The country earned SD 1,026 bln an increase of 16% on the previous record of $883 Mn earned from tea exports in 2006.
