Dialog Telekom powers Ada Derana format

Dialog Telekom PLC in its quest to empower and enrich Sri Lankans with knowledge and information through advanced mobile technology, entered into another ground breaking agreement with Derana recently to introduce an all new news reporting format with the launch of 'Rapid News Reporting'.

Agreement: Dialog Telekom PLC and Derana entered into an agreement recently to introduce an all new news reporting format with the launch of “Rapid News Reporting”. In the background are the mobile correspondents who will be reporting news live from different locations using Dialog 3G services.

This latest tie-up is seen as another revolutionary service supported by Dialog Telekom, subsequent to the launch of 'Ada Derana News Alerts' last year which brings very latest in local news direct to mobile phones.

Launched at Havelock grounds, Colombo, 'Rapid News Reporting' (RNR) service is a first in Sri Lanka where viewers get to experience the latest and most up to date information and visual imagery.

'Rapid News Reporting' is deployed through a team of mobile correspondents who will scour the streets of Colombo and suburbs.

The team will utilise 3G technology powered by Dialog Telekom to transmit live feeds. 'Rapid News Reporting' team will be at the scene of an incident almost instantaneously and will report and broadcast directly from the location using Dialog 3G services.

Reporting instantly from the location through 3G video calling reduces the time lag that is usually associated with unavoidable delays in transferring recorded material for transmission.

Group Chief Marketing Officer of Dialog Telekom, Nushad Perera stated, "We are truly delighted to be the main technology provider to this service as we firmly believe in utilising telecommunication technologies in ways that would enrich the lives of the people of Sri Lanka.

'Rapid News Reporting' will open the door for the local viewers to experience a new format in news reporting that is on par with global news reporting trends. We see this launch as a futuristic step that would add more value to news reporting."

Derana's 'Rapid News Reporting' service augments its already superior news broadcasts and positions it as a front-runner in the media scene in Sri Lanka. Speaking at the occasion, Director, News and Current Affairs, Derana, Shehan Baranage, noted that "the RNR service will not only heighten the level of service offered by the channel but that it will go a long way in creating a new approach to news reporting in Sri Lanka".

Derana's 'Rapid News Reporting' while being powered by Dialog 3G, is captured on 3G enabled mobile handsets. Panasonic cameras are provided courtesy of Softlogic, whilst the news team is mobilised by Kinetic bikes courtesy Singer Sri Lanka.
