100 Lankan workers under 'house arrest' in Saudi

Discussions on to seek settlement:

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau yesterday said they had taken measures to assist over 100 beleaguered migrant workers in Saudi Arabia, who claim that they are under virtual house arrest and held against their will, since their contract of employment lapsed six months ago.

New power sets from China

Fifteen new power sets will be imported from China in May to augment the present train services. The power sets will cost Rs.5250 million. A spokesman from the Transport Ministry told the Daily News that each power set will comprise six coaches with engine costing Rs.350 million.

Indian corporates on fact finding mission

Competitive terms a must to attract best in oil rigging:

Sri Lanka and India should offer globally competitive terms and conditions in oil exploration to attract the best in the world, Indian Minister for Commerce Jairam Ramesh told the Daily News Business. "When India was exploring oil and petroleum resources in 1986 by the famous Reliance Group we offered globally attractive terms and conditions, which enabled India to be competitive in the area, Minister Ramesh told a media conference in Colombo," yesterday.
