The Three Day Iran-Sri Lanka Trade Exhibition in Teheran organised and co-sponsored by Sri Lanka Embassy in association with the Sri Lanka Tea Board and Sri Lanka Export Development Board to coincide with the State visit of Sri Lanka President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to Iran was concluded with success. This is the very first Trade Exhibition ever held in Iran to display Sri Lankan products and it was held from November 21 to 23. A number of State trade institutions and private sector institutions participated at the exhibition. The Exhibition’s main focus was to market Sri Lankan Tea and expand tea exports. President Kumaratunga on two day State visit to Iran

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga left for Teheran yesterday on a two day State visit to Iran at the invitation of Iranian President Mohammad Khatami. She was accompanied by Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, Power and Energy Minister Susil Premajayantha and Senior officials.

Police apprehend three suspected armed LTTE cadres near Parliament

Welikade Police yesterday apprehended three alleged LTTE cadres along with another man near the Parliament while they were travelling in a Pajero jeep. Police seized two micro pistols in possession with the suspects.

UNP titans clash in Parliament

UNP stalwarts Mahinda Samarasinghe and Rajitha Senaratne almost came to blows in the Chamber of Parliament yesterday following a disagreement stemming from the on going dispute in the current controversy in connection with the eight hour work shift affecting public servants.
