by Sarath Malalasekera The suspects who were arrested with the brand new vehicle of slain company executive Sujeewa Perera were yesterday produced before the Homagama Magistrate and Additional District Judge Gihan Ranawake and remanded till December 7. On an application by the Police, the Judge directed the Prison authorities to produce the suspect before an identification parade on November 22. Sub Inspector T. K. G. Chandrasekera, OIC, CDB Homagama Police filing a report in connection with the killing before court said that the police is perusing the finger prints obtained at the scene to arrest more suspects who are alleged to have been involved in the killing. Sujeewa Perera, the financial controller of a private firm was shot dead and his vehicle seized near his home at Makumbura junction in the Pannipitiya police area on Saturday night . 'The Honda Civic vehicle was found at a Holiday Resort in the Giriulla Police area, Crime, Criminal Intelligence and Narcotics DIG Jayantha Wickremaratne told the 'Daily News'. On the direction of DIG Jayantha Wickremaratne, Western Province South DIG K. P. P. Pathirana deployed a special police team led by SP Wickrema Perera to conduct further investigations. Investigations revealed that the vehicle in which the victim was travelling along with his wife Awanthi and their six month old infant had been given to Sujeewa by the management only recently. Investigators are trying to ascertain whether this is a contract killing. Police are also trying to ascertain how this stolen vehicle went into the position of the young man and the identiy of the woman who was with him. The Police said that they found several spent cartridges at the scene and that those are from a shot gun. Police are also looking for an assailant who is alleged to have killed Sujeewa Perera, DIG Wickremaratne said. Upali Seneratne, senior counsel watching the interests of the deceased family. |
