Sri Lanka offers technical assistance to Asian countries

The Awards Ceremony of the Certificate Course in "Public Policy and Good Governance" was held at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) on Sunday, November 21 with Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar as Chief Guest. Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs, Amarasiri Dodangoda was also present.

A press release issued by the Foreign Ministry states:

Fifteen participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Maldivies, Myanmar, Nepal and Vietnam together with three local participants received their Certificates for participating in the training programme on "Public Policy and Good Governance" which was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with SLIDA.

The study programme was fully funded by the Technical Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

This course was the 24th in a series sponsored by the Technical Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Initiated in January 2001 by Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, the objective of the programme was to provide skills training to officials of neighbouring Asian countries, at selected centres in Sri Lanka that have acquired a regional reputation for excellence.

SLIDA had planned the training course on "Public Policy and Good Governance" to supplement the knowledge and professional expertise of officials involved in policy formulation in the public sector, whilst providing an opportunity to identify problems of governance and to examine remedial measures in addressing such challenges.

Representatives from the resident diplomatic missions of Bangladesh, The Maldives, Myanmar and Nepal, official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, faculty members of SLIDA and leading personalities on civil society attended the Awards ceremony.
