Top ICT events on the cards

Sri Lanka will host several important events in ICT from November end till early December.

These will be the sixth International IT Conference (IITC - 2004), the second International Conference one-Governance (ICEG - 2004) and the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Asia Oceanian Association of IT Industry Associations (ASSOCIO ICT SUMMIT - 2004).

The Government as decided by the Cabinet of Ministers, has declared the three as events of national importance and has also declared November 29 to December 5 as the ICT Week - 2004, the Government Information Department said in a release yesterday. The International IT Conference has been held consecutively since 1998 and has become the major forum for presenting research papers on the current work of IT professionals and academics both Sri Lankan and foreign.

These presentations are supplemented by keynote addresses by world renowned experts in IT. There will also be presentations on e-Sri Lanka and Re-engineering Government outlining the strategy to be adopted by the ICT Agency and the Sri Lankan Government.

Both conferences to be held from November 29 to December 1, at the BMICH will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse on November 29.A postage stamp to mark the ICT Week-2004 will be issued at the inauguration. The ASSOCIO ICT Summit 2004 hosted by the Federation of the IT Industry of Sri Lanka (FITIS) will consists of the officers' meeting, conference, ICT ministers dialogue and workshops together with the ASSOCIO ICT Exhibition.

This exhibition replaces the INFOTEL Exhibition held every two years from 1992 as the largest ICT exhibition in the country.

The ASSOCIO ICT Exhibition will be inaugurated on November 30 at 6.00 p.m. and will be open to the public from December 1 to 5 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition Centre and the Colombo Convention and Exhibition Centre.
